ingenting kollektiva
an anatomy of melancholy
(ib008) LP

ingenting kollektiva's third full length release, an anatomy of melancholy, is comprised of recordings from 2010-2015, made under the concept "may pain be my reward". these recordings mostly revolve around the atmosphere of melancholia summoned by georg buchner's novella fragment lenz, and researched by robert burton in his the anatomy of melancholy.
the kollektiva had previously paid hommage to music from 1969; specifically jazz, british folk, drone and kraut rock with their first album, and french poetry and messiaen's catalogue d'oiseaux with their second. these new recordings musically go in a similar direction, but deal with some of the music that inspired the kollektiva back in the mid nineties: specifically the idea of lontano (as from a distance), which can be heard in music by krzysztof penderecki, gyorgy ligeti, and tomasz stanko. also in the quality of sound and textures of early music, mainly heard in recordings by the spanish viol player jordi savall.
this album has a slightly different sounds than the others as it is more than half comprised of electric guitar, or "trash guitar", as our producer calls it, or "trashed guitar", by which we understood the guitar had had too much to drink. the recordings were mostly done in arthur de eriomem's rural library casa di memoria, where the instruments (and players) were surrounded by a wonderful library of books on art, literature, poetry, photography and researchers of the sublime. we hope these books had an effect on the recordings.
we also are very much indebted to james hamilton who contributed guitar work which brought the album out of a (what seemed at the time) never ending state of nowheresville.
